And just like that, February is already (almost over). I feel like as long as January took, February seemed to breeze on by, bringing us even closer to warmer weather and all the fun that comes along with transitional dressing. That said, I wanted to do a little look back on the month of February with a little life update to both get excited for a month gone by, and to reflect on all the exciting things I did! I am a pessimist by nature, so I find it important for me to remind myself of all the good things that have happened, and who knows, maybe this will become a new monthly feature!
1. This month was particularly productive when it came to getting the apartment together! If you follow me on Instagram, then you know that we’ve been having some issues with mould growing in our bedroom over the winter. Yep, it’s as gross as it sounds. To prevent more of our stuff from getting damaged by the moisture in the room, we had to move everything out except for our bed, and that went on for way too long. It kind of felt like Pat and I were squatting in our own home. We even had to take the curtains down because we didn’t want to ruin them too. Thankfully we finally convinced our landlord to paint the room in mould resistant/killing paint so that we would feel safe living in there again. We decided to wait a full week after it was painted to make sure that everything was looking good before moving back in, and it feels so good! I forgot what it’s like to have a bedroom! With curtains! And home decor! I’m waiting to order some prints for above our bed, but once I do and the room is fully finished, perhaps I’ll write a little post up about how we re-decorated and refreshed everything since the whole mould debacle. Note to self: don’t move into a 100-year-old heritage building.
2. Some exciting news rolled in on the writing front! I found out back in September that a poem I had submitted to a literary magazine was accepted for publication, and they got in touch a few weeks ago in a follow-up email to tell me that it’s going to come out in their Spring issue! I seriously cannot wait to get a copy in the mail. I think it’s going to be a huge motivator for me to see some of my work in print. The submission process is definitely a long one (I originally sent the poem in last January), but it’s so so worth it. I am definitely going to feature a blog post all about it, and perhaps some tips for other writers who are looking to get their stuff published!
3. Pat’s family came to town for a visit in the middle of the month, and it was such a nice treat! Even though I had to work most of the time they were here, it felt like a vacation; we went for a mini road trip up the island, and even went and did a beer tasting at Ile Sauvage, a local brewery, and at Merridale Cider. It was a great break from routine, and nice to do a few different things around the city that we don’t normally have time for in our usual weekly schedule.
4. Midway through the month, I cleaned out my closet, and it was such a game changer. I find that anytime I get the chance to pull everything out and reorganize it, it really gives me the chance to find some pieces I’ve been neglecting that I can work into new outfits. It’s also the perfect opportunity to take a look at all of my winter pieces and purge some stuff that I haven’t been wearing and stuff that I don’t feel good in anymore. I am also getting more and more excited about planning my spring and summer wardrobe, and I can’t wait to find a few more pieces to add to my wardrobe. Bring on the sun!
Albeit short, February was a pretty darn good month! I can’t wait to see what the rest of the winter will bring. What was your favourite part of February?
