I’m always hesitant to go about setting goals because I know the dread that comes with getting halfway through the year and realizing you haven’t done any of it. That being said, I think it can still be a great way to reflect on the past year; somethings that went well, somethings that perhaps didn’t pan out how you had hoped, and try to make some adjustments. We’re all just trying to do our best, aren’t we? I’m also of the belief that failure is normal and healthy, and though the list I am going to share with you is all stuff I would really really like to do in the coming year if it doesn’t happen that’s ok too.
So, without more incessant introspective rambling, here are some of the things I’ve set my sights on for 2019!
Improving the Blog
Let’s get this one out the way first, shall we? Blogging is bloody hard. Much harder than I thought it was going to be. As someone who works a full-time job and freelances on the side, I am really pressed for time, hence the infrequent and spotty blog posts the past few months. I haven’t quite mastered the art of juggling all these different things, my personal life and keeping my apartment clean, and that’s something I would really like to work on in the New Year. Whether it’s making a realistic schedule and then really sticking to it, or carving out some time on my weekends, posting more regularly is definitely a big goal of mine in 2019.
Aside from that, I would love to get better at taking photos and editing them, because man, that has already been such a learning curve (I have learned that hard way that my apartment has horrible lighting). I would also love to finally get my blog linked to Bloglovin (nope, it still ‘can’t find my blog’ three months later) so that I can work on building more of a community and getting some consistent readers. I’m very keen to grow on this platform, which means nailing my content and truly being proud of everything I post!
Though my personal writing journey isn’t something I’ve spoken much yet (I have so many ideas for blog posts on this subject!) it’s definitely a big focus for my intentions in the New Year. As someone who now writes professionally, I’ve found that all my personal writing projects have taken a huge hit, so I really want to give some love to both my fiction and poetry pursuits that have taken the back burner over the last eight or nine months. I currently have a book on the go, and while it’s only two chapters, it’s been really fun to work on and I would love to set certain word count goals this year to inspire me to chip away at it. As for poetry, I think just trying to churn out something every month or every two weeks would make a huge dent. I make excuses for not devoting time to both, and I know that if I set myself goals and planned out a proper schedule, I could make it happen.
More Trips and Time Away
Pat and I are both the kind of people that love going away for the holidays (just returned yesterday from a week away with his family), but rarely book time off to go away just the two of us. Aside from a few small trips to Vancouver for shows, we don’t get out of Victoria much, so I would love to book some time off this summer so he and I can go on a bit of an adventure. We’ve talked about driving down the Oregon Coast, or exploring more Gulf Islands, so perhaps we’ll start planning a little vacay soon. We definitely need something to look forward to during the months of rain and grey skies ahead of us!
Some Smaller Goals:
-Start buying bulk to reduce plastic packaging
-Spend more time biking
-Get my ears pierced
-Spend less time on my phone/laptop
-Workout minimum 3x a week
-Drink more water
-Keep all my plants alive (I’ll need some fingers crossed for this one)
And there ya have it! I am feeling quite motivated this year, and I’m ready to truly strike a balance between blogging/working/freelancing, I just have to take things one day at a time.
