It seemed improper to begin this blog without a proper this-is-why-im-here post, either to laugh at in six months or reflect on in a few years (either is good in its own way).
The truth is, starting my own blog is something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time—and something that I’ve attempted twice already. The first was at thirteen, taking self-timer photos in my bedroom in my most outrageous outfits; back then I changed the name of my blog every week or so when thought of something that expressed my unequivocal love for Agyness Deyn, Alexa Chung, and Arcade Fire more effectively. The second time was during my first year of university when I longed for some creative output during philosophy lectures and a two hour commute to campus. I think neither lasted because I was simply a bit afraid to give it a go, afraid that someone would find out about my odd hobby, or that not doing it was better than trying and failing miserably.
And yet, here we are—clearly something in me must be hardwired for this sort of thing. Flash forward four years, and I’ve graduated from uni, exploring what post-grad life has to offer. Sadly, as was expected, most people with a writing degree aren’t getting paid to write what they like, so that’s why we’re here for round three. Don’t get me wrong, I feel very grateful to work for an amazing business that’s paying me to write (practically unheard of, let me tell ya) but I do miss writing in my own voice.
That’s about it. I’m just another twenty-something woman making space for myself in this technological wasteland. If you’ve gotten this far, I hope that means you’ll join me for future posts. I’m keen to make my thirteen-year-old self proud (though we will try to keep the outrageous outfit posts to a minimum).
